About the Cha Cha
The Cha Cha comes from Cuba in the early 1950s. It is usually credited to the violinist and bandleader Enrique Jorrín, whose music had a quick triple step that dancers answered with their feet. The name is said to echo the sound of those shuffling steps.
In International Latin the Cha Cha is crisp and playful: straight legs, Cuban motion through the hips, and the famous cha-cha-cha triple step on 4 and 1. It is one of the most fun dances to learn, and it works to a lot of popular music.
